Are you looking for a Circular Walk In Alresford Hampshire? This walk we did with our 3 children and they loved it. With parks, ducks, rivers and fields to run in, it ticked all their boxes. Follow our route to do a circular walk in Alresford.
Alresford is in Hampshire and is an old Georgian town that is now well known for the large watercress farming beds and the Watercress steam train line. Every little child will love standing on the bridges as the big steamtrain comes through and watching the driver toot the whistle!
There are various places you can park in Alresford but the walk we did starts from road ‘The Dean‘ off the main street that runs down the middle of Alresford.
This is what you will see at the bottom of ‘The Dean’, a beautiful river with paths leading off both ways. If you have kids there are ducks and swans here for them to see.
Take the path to the left and follow it along.
As you follow the path along you come to a large field on the left with a really nice park for the kids to have a run around in. It has a zip wire, large climbing equipment with picnic tables and a large field to kick a ball around.
Once they have had a play you carry on along the path you were on, it’s a charming walk as you follow the river along. The water is so clear and each time we have been able to spot some large fish which the kids love.
Keep following the path until you get to a wooden gate, go through this gate and cross over to a fenced path that runs along a field. Keep following it along until you come to a road. Cross over the road to another path, and keep following this path all the way along.
Once you reach the end of the path you need to take the right-hand path and follow this up to the road. Turn right and follow the road along, this does have cars going along so if you have kids keep your eyes and ears open!
As you walk along the road you come across a gap in the hedges on your right-hand side, take that and then turn immediately left and follow the field path along. Look at this beautiful view when you get to the top of the field, we stopped here with our picnic! Then follow the field path down to the bottom where there is a path to the left. Follow that along and cross over the road.
Follow it down the hill and turn left, you come to a gate where you will see a little small path off to the left, follow it through and you will get to a farmer’s field.
Follow that field straight through and turn left, you will see a stile, hop over and you will see a little hole in the bush and a road on the other side. Get to the road, turn right and follow the road down.
You will see a watercress farm on your right and soon after that is a little gravel track on the right. Follow that down to the river and a beautiful cottage.
You will come across this beautiful picture-perfect cottage, turn right and follow the path back along the river.
That’s the walk finished! Once you get to the end of the river path you are back at the start.
I tracked the walk and it is just under 4 miles long, it took us about 1.30 hours (not including the park, picnic and photo shoot!) but we have small children and didn’t rush.

I am in Hedge End, Southampton! I love living around here, so many great places to explore.
What a wonderful route that makes, I love that it is all safe and off road with a park to play in along the way. Perfect for young explorers and that rapeseed field family photo is just delightful. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.
Thank you, I love the shot of yellow in the picture. Always wanted a photo like that of them!
What an idyllic walk with so much to see and do. That’s just the sort of days my boys love to have. Popping over from Country Kids 🙂
Thank you, it is nice to just let them run and be free
Oh looks lovely, and not very far from us at all xx
