Anderwood in The New Forest is a great picnic area with walks and New Forest Ponies around. Anderwood is also wonderful for having a walk around The New Forest.
One of our favourite things to do as a family is to find new places together. We’re very lucky to have the edge of The New Forest within a 20-minute drive from home. So it’s perfect for us to go off and explore. I don’t think we ever find all the places within it!
Even the drive through it is lovely, especially at this time of the year with the foals out.

Today’s place to find was Anderwood in The New Forest, it looked like a decent car park with toilets and lovely wood to explore.

You used to be able to hire a BBQ but this has now changed and you can no longer hire a BBQ here.

We took this gate through that area into the woods and just followed the path along. It was so nice to see the woods coming alive again after the winter.

This part of the New Forest was really peaceful and seemed quite untouched, I love parts like this. I find it so relaxing and love seeing the children exploring.

I am not sure what was on the other side of the fence, but to the left of us was a large fenced-off area. We basically went around the edge of this and followed it around.

Keep following the path around till you get to some more paths and take a left to loop around in a circle.

We didn’t want a long walk so this was perfect for us, I reckon it was about 1.5 miles and took us 50 mins. We had a picnic waiting for us at the end!
We also came across the biggest ants nest we’ve ever seen before! It was HUGE and so were the ants!! Look away now if you don’t want to see….!

That fascinated the children for a while!!
Then we took this route on the left through the woods again, hoping it would loop us back to the car park area. It did!

Then we were back into the woods and back to the gate again.
Anderwood has a nice picnic area with a flat grassed area which has toilets too, so perfect for families, and dogs.
