We found Buriton Chalk Pit walk randomly when out one day, we were trying to find another place but couldn’t get there, so just looked for a car park nearby, and then went off and explored.
We parked at Halls Hill car park, which was a small car park right by a triangle roundabout.

Walk over the road into the hedges where you will see this sign. It shows you the circular walks around the chalk pit, and what to see in the area. This isn’t a large walk around the chalk pit, and it’s very steep in places!

When you get to this sign, you will see a path to your right. Take this one, it runs along the top of the chalk pit, and also along the edge of the road.
Hubby will love this photo of him being silly and the dog looks weird as he was mid shake!!! But you guys needed to see this, to know which path!!

As you can see it is very steep in places off to the side of the paths, so be aware of little ones!

We originally took this gate, but this is the path that takes you into the chalk pit walk, if you don’t want to go in here and follow our route, then keep following the path straight past this.

You’re quite high up here, so there are some fab views if you look out to the sides.

Keep following the paths along, down towards a small gate to the left.

This then brings you out to this field, with a small narrow pathway that runs all the way down the field.

You will reach a church and a car park. This would be another good starting place for a walk around. We’re come back another day and start from here!
The area is really lovely with some lovely walks around, with a pub in the village too.

Walk around this pond and you will see a track with the small churchyard on your right.

Keep following this path along, and under the railway line.

Once you get to this sign, take the right hand path along the fence edge.

Keep an eye out on the floor for some chalk, it was great to show the children ‘real’ chalk and they tried it out on the posts!

Follow the path all the way along, and you will find yourself back at the sign from the start!
This was a lovely little circular walk with the children around Buriton Chalk Pit walk, we will be back to explore more of this area as there are many walks around here.

Looks like a great place to walk, especially on a sunny day with all those lovely trees to keep it cool and shady . We live in Oxfordshire and we’ve got a lot of chalk around here as well but not sure if we have any old chalk pits. However, one of the good things to come out of lockdown is that we’ve found lots of new local walks 🙂
It’s been great for finding new places to walk that are local hasn’t it! I loved that
Sometimes those unexpected places are the best ones to visit. Looks like you found a great spot
Thank you very much

I do love the picture of the dog mid-shake! Almost doesn’t look real x x
I thought I best explain it!!
oh it is lovely! We always go for daily walk in our area. A good habit you have built since the lockdown
Been great finding new places too
It looks absolutely beautiful and perfect for taking children as it’s not too long! A fab place to explore and use their imagination
Yes it was great for little legs as you can give them somewhere to explore, but it’s not a big struggle around. Love a circular walk too!
