Are you looking for a dessert store that will make your kid’s eyes pop out? Then no need to visit London anymore for amazing desserts, you can head to Hans and Gretel Southampton! Hans and Gretel have just opened a new store in West Quay Southampton and we visited with our children.
I’ve always known London to be full of unique stores, with food outlets that are more than just places to buy food, you find places that will bring food alive and it becomes an experience, this is what Hans and Gretel do!
When you first see a Hans and Gretel store it will bring you right back to childhood stories of sweet houses and gingerbread houses made from sweets, and as a kid, you will be drawn right in! The Camden Market London store looks like it’s a sweet house inside, with the roof full of colour and interesting things.
The Hans and Gretel West Quay store isn’t quite like that, but it still looks amazing. Full of colour, and stands out well in the upper food level in West Quay.

We arrived on the official opening day of the new store, and it looked very good. Nicely presented, clean tidy and the ice creams were perfect! I do wish the signage was a little bigger and clearer though. They had one sign with just the menu written out with no images, and a small menu at the till area with a picture of the item on it. It would be great to have this in large along the front.

Children can take a while to decide what they want, and also they don’t know what a ‘fantasy cone ice cream’ is, well in fact it’s an ice cream cone with a candy floss fluffy ring around it!!!

The other options were a Hans and Gretel Chimney Cake

These were cooked dough which was warm when you ate the, then before it was served it was rolled in a cinnamon sugar mixture, these were very nice!

A Hans and Gretel Bubble Waffle which was a cooked warm waffle, then filled with toppings and ice cream. Be aware the ice cream does leak out the bottom, so get a tissue.

All of these were with 2 flavours of ice cream and all toppings were included in the price. These are added on at the end, we could have done with the sauces having a name label on them, I’m sure the staff will get fed up with people asking them all!

The Hans and Gretel ice creams were really tasty and we all enjoyed them very much. I also loved the fact that they did have a selection of vegan flavour ice cream, not special flavours, but your standard ice cream strawberry and vanilla flavour.
But if you’re looking for more fancy ice creams, Hans and Gretel had tasty ones like Biscoff, and apple and blackberry ice cream! We all had a different selection and they were all very nice!

If ice cream isn’t your thing, how about Pick and Mix or a bucket of candy floss? This nicely displayed area has this too.

So if you’re looking for a treat for yourself I do recommend Hans and Gretel Southampton, located on the top level of West Quay Southampton, where all the food places are. You won’t miss it, it stands out!
