Sheffield Park National Trust is a stunning parkland to explore. With a large lake, manicured gardens and lots of wildlife.

Having a National Trust membership means we can go and explore some new places and don’t feel like we’ve spent out lots of money on our day out. We don’t mind travelling a little further afield, as you’re just spending out on petrol to get there. So during the lockdowns, we manage to meet up with our friends for a walk around Sheffield Park National Trust in East Sussex. It was so nice to spend some time with them outdoors, and see these beautiful gardens.

A serene landscape at Sheffield Park features a pond covered in lily pads, surrounded by lush green trees and shrubs under a cloudy sky. Grassy areas and large leafy plants complete the tranquil foreground.

Sheffield Park

The parking was easy and well managed, with plenty of spaces for everyone. The car park isn’t too far from the front entrance as well, but you can also walk out into the main parklands from this car park too. We had to check-in as it was a booking entrance at the time, and then directed around towards the large lake and building.

A large, historic stone castle with towers and arched windows stands on a grassy hill in Sheffield Park, surrounded by green trees and shrubs. The sky is overcast, and a single tree with red leaves is on the right.

Sheffield Park house looks amazing, but I don’t think you can visit inside the house (I could be wrong!) but I haven’t seen anywhere on the website about the house, just the park, and gardens.

Sheffield Park Lakes

The lakes are the show stopper here, and with the paths leading all the way around them you can walk around these for ages. Take in the views, see the different types of mature trees and shrubs, and don’t forget the amount of wildlife here!

Wildlife At Sheffield Park

These ducks know who brings a picnic with them! They surrounded us to try and eat our sandwiches, and wouldn’t leave everyone alone!!

A group of ducks stands on the grassy edge of a pond filled with lily pads at Sheffield Park. Lush green trees and shrubs surround the water, and a large building is visible in the distance under a cloudy sky.

We spend quite a while walking around the lakes as they are really big and you could easily spend the whole time here if you like a leisurely afternoon walk and stroll. Keep an eye out for the little hut here which sells coffee and ice creams.

A calm river flanked by dense green trees on both sides, reflecting the cloudy sky above. The tranquil scene evokes Sheffield Park, with lush foliage and a dirt path winding along the right bank.

Parkland At Sheffield Park

Sheffield Park has a large parkland for you to walk around as well. This is back at the car park area and is largely open fields. We headed down the hill towards the bottom, then followed the signs around the field

A wooden bench sits on dry, patchy grass in an open field under a cloudy sky at Sheffield Park, with trees and greenery in the distance.
A person walks near a small, old brick bunker surrounded by grass and large trees at Sheffield Park, with fields and a fence in the background under a cloudy sky.

Inside the woodland area is a small play area that the kids found, this is pretty hidden so have fun finding it!

Sheffield Park is a lovely place to visit for both people who love a short wander around some pretty gardens, or a larger walk around the parkland.
