During our holiday to Cornwall, we wanted to find all the lovely places in the Lizard Peninsula and Kennack Sands beach was one to add to the list. It has a dog-friendly Cornwall beach, clear sands, white sands and facilities.
It has a narrow road down to the beach which often had people walking down it from the holiday park at the top of the road, people were also parking on the verges even when there was parking at the bottom!
Parking was easy, a large field was roped off for this, you need to pay for parking here and looking at the Trip Advisor recent reviews you need to be very careful with your timings. A camera checking you in (I didn’t know this until writing this) takes your entrance parking time from that time. The mobile signal is terrible, so there is no use trying to pay with the mobile apps. We paid for our parking using cash and got back to the car when the ticket ran out. So don’t cut it short, as people are being fined as it then registers your car leaving, and that’s when you need to pay too. This might update itself over time, but be aware, please.
At the car park area, there is a cafe and lifeguard station here, as this beach has lifeguards at certain times of the year. The cafe served, snacks, ice creams, cornish pasties which were very nice, and hot and cold drinks.
Kennack Sands is made up of two beaches, the first beach here at the cafe side is where you find the lifeguards and no dogs are allowed on the beach here. Well, they are but using the Cornwall dog ban rules. But don’t worry you can take the dog on the East beach which is over the large hill, this is where we headed too.

Follow the pathways and steps up the hill, it is really steep and is a bit of a pain. I did see some people just walking across the main beach with their dogs to skip this part, I don’t blame them! But I am a stickler for the rules!
Once you’re over the hill you head down again to the beach, it’s a beautiful large sandy beach with a wide open water area so perfect for heading into the water to watch the children.
I found it quite sheltered here with the large rock sides around us, but the waves were quite good too.
The dogs loved the beach and being able to swim in the sea.
The rocks are great for looking in as well with lots of rock pools filled with little sea bugs.
We really enjoyed our time at Kennack Sands Cornwall, it gave us a beautiful sandy beach which was a family-friendly beach with factities, but also dog friendly for us to all enjoy our Cornwall holiday.
