We found a stunning holiday cottage with a pool in Cornwall and I will share our visit with you to Laflouder Thatch in Mullion Cornwall. A large 3 bedroom thatch cottage with a pool and what makes it even better for us, it’s a dog-friendly holiday home in Cornwall.

Location Of Laflouder Thatch
It was important for us to find a holiday house that was near the coast, which isn’t too tricky in Cornwall as you have many beaches nearby in many different directions! But Laflouder Thatch is located within a 10-minute walk to the Polurrian Cove. The website does say 5 minutes, but we did the walk twice, were not slow walkers, and we tried it with the kids and without and it was 10 minutes both times.

You can see the sea from the house, so you can tell how close you are to the beach, it was so nice seeing this from the garden.
Mullion is a small village in Cornwall with a selection of shops. A convenience shop, Pharmacy, beach shop, pub, and cafes. You do have enough here for getting the items you need, but there isn’t a large supermarket here. We ordered a Sainsburys online delivery to arrive for the evening we arrived, this came from Helson which is the nearest area for supermarkets, including a Tesco store as well. Our delivery arrived on time, easily found Laflouder Thatch and we were all stocked up for the week.
Check In and Arrival
Check in with smooth enough, we received a text in the morning to say they will send us the key box code when the house is cleaned and ready for us. This might be earlier than our check in time of 4:30pm, so don’t call to ask as you will receive a text. We arrived at the house at 4pm as we were traveling 5 hours away and making stops, our timing wasn’t quite right, the house was all ready and no one there. We received our text about 15mins later.
House was very clean and tidy when we arrived, the pool was clean and everything ready for us. We were very excited to get unpacked and get in the pool!
Kitchen

The kitchen was a good size, with lots of useable space and plenty of cupboards to put our food away in. The tea, coffee, and sugar were stocked up for us, including coffee pods for the coffee machine. The utensils were well stocked and plenty of cutlery and plates etc.
There wasn’t any cleaning cloths or kitchen roll, this was meant to be supplied as I had checked beforehand on what we needed to bring, but upon arrival nothing here so there was no way of us cleaning the sides or table. I did ask Cornish Gems who said they would sort it, but nothing happened. We ended up using the tea towel to clean the sides down before buying some cloths. Just annoying when I could have easily bought some along.

We also had a little accident with the oven, as the white cloth here is an oven cloth and there is only one. So trying to get trays out of the oven with one cloth meant we burnt our finger. I also thought this was a hand towel for drying your hands in the kitchen as there wasn’t one of those supplied. So be careful, I did check we hadn’t missed the oven gloves anywhere, but this is what is supplied.
I really enjoyed all the small appliances that are provided, including a small radio in this room, it made it feel more homely and comfortable.

Dining Room
As well as some bar stool seating to sit on in the kitchen, which everyone always loves there is a dining room area for seating at the table together.

The dining room was large enough for 6 seating, with two armchairs and then two benches, get a cushion it’s a bit hard for a while! I think the bench seating works well as there isn’t a large amount of walking space around so this keeps the walk-throughs clear.
The utility room is through the door on the left.
Utility Room

There is a small utility room with a downstairs toilet. This is very handy to have to save you from going upstairs during the daytime. Here is also a 5kg washing machine if you need to do a small wash whilst you are here. The vacuum is in here too so if you do need it you can, it was full up though and it would have been great if it was emptied from the previous people’s dirt if we wanted to keep the house clean during our stay.
I used this room to feed the dogs and store all their food and things, so it was a helpful space to have.
Living Room

The living space is a good size and down the other end away from the kitchen hustle and bustle. It has two large and very comfy sofas, smart tv for you to load up your streaming accounts, door access into the garden, and plenty of small tables.

The fireplace is stunning, and it makes you want to come back here when it’s cold and Winter just to use this.
It also has a staircase to go to the main bedroom.

Main Bedroom
The main bedroom is up the staircase away from the other two bedrooms. This wasn’t an issue for us as we had older children, but you cannot hear the children in their rooms from this end of the house. The walls are 600 years old and thick!

The main bedroom is beautiful and a great size, with a large wardrobe and a chest of drawers for storage. It has plug sockets at the bedside and a little chair in the window. The bed was super comfortable and a great size, I slept very well.

The main bedroom has an ensuite with a large shower, it was nice and hot and decent pressure. The towel rail is heated and is on an automatic timer, this alone heats up this bedroom. Could have done with a fan in the bedrooms, as it got very hot. Toiletries were supplied but our shower gel only had one shower worth in.
Other Bedrooms
The other bedrooms are down the other end of the house, with their own staircase from the dining room area. The beds can be made up as twins or double, by letting them know beforehand.

The other room is a double, with well-thought-out hangers in the eves.

The family bathroom has a shower over the bath, so suitable for a family. Everything was very clean and tidy in the bathrooms.

Towels and Dressing Gowns
All the towels were provided for the house towels, but also large pool towels for the pool. This was super helpful as I only had to bring beach towels for us to use then. They also provided dressing gowns which were great as you could use those after showering for the pool when you were outside! Save getting chilly.
Swimming Pool

Obviously, this was what we fell in love with this house when we found it, the swimming pool. It’s such a stunning pool, and the way they have designed it with the loungers and position in the garden is perfect.

It gets the sunshine all day, so you find it’s a real sun trap here. Be aware though, that any bit of wind and the inflatables can fly off. We didn’t use many of the ones we bought with us, as they wouldn’t stay anywhere near the pool water with a slight breeze! Sure the neighbours wouldn’t want a blowup pineapple in their garden!
The pool was heated to 28, and felt a little chilly when you first get in but fine once moving. Our outside temp was around 21-22 when we visited so reckon that was why.
When we arrived you could tell the chemicals were topped up highly as it was a bit stingy on our eyes, which eased off after a couple of days. We used it every day, apart from Thursday. Come Friday when we opened it up it had gone a funny yellow colour, and looked cloudy. The booklet says to contact them if there is an issue, but it was our last day so didn’t feel there was any point as they hadn’t arrived to sort out the other small issues after promising. We have stayed at other pool houses and they have topped up the chemicals mid-week to keep it clean.
Cornish Gems have since said I should have told them on Friday to check with the maintenance guy, but like I said this was our last day so not really worth it. They also said that the hot tubs are usually checked mid-week, but not the pools.
Pool Shower Room

The little grey block in the background is an outdoor shower room and toilet. This was brilliant to use for washing off before the pool and afterward. Saved getting the main house wet or sandy when you came back from the beach. I found this room so handy to have, a great addition.

We also stored the swim stuff and inflatables in here overnight ready for the next day. Having a toilet here is great as you can use this when you are wet from the pool.
Summerhouse

The summerhouse was another great outside addition, a sunny warm room where you can open up the larger doors and get some fresh air. This would be lovely when the weather isn’t too great, but you want some fresh air.

The decor here was lovely, and it was a very homely feeling.
Garden Space
There was a brilliant outside table, made from a composite type material it was solid, and no risk of this blowing away! We were able to sit out here and have a BBQ in the garden together. The charcoal BBQ was a good size, but bring some charcoal along with you.

There is a small raised lawned area of the garden behind the pool and directly outside the back doors.

Then another large lawned area down near the BBQ and summerhouse area. This is a lovely sized lawn, great for playing games, the kids have a space to play in.

The main edge of the house is all enclosed, but it is all contained together, pool, summerhouse, lawns, BBQ, annexe, driveway, and parking.

This wooden annexe is not included in the main house to stay in, but you can park in front of this, it holds up the washing line too!
Parking

There is plenty of parking directly outside the front door of the house, with a large gravel driveway and gated entrance.

Tip on the driveway gates, you have to make sure you stand back to let them close on you when leaving before you then move back forwards to put the windbreaker back over. The neighbors must have a laugh at people when their opening and close these gates, trying to figure it out! We also had a run in with a lady whilst the car was blocking the track (pretty much a single road outside the gates) as we were closing the gates, she was very impatient, so try and do it quickly!
Laflouder Thatch was easy to find, google knows it, and also there is a nice slate sign outside the gates too.
Welcome Pack

This is the best welcome pack we’ve ever had when staying somewhere. All locally made and it was all so nice, we tucked into these nicely and even went and found the dairy where the milk and cream came from, the milk was the nicest milk ever!
Dog Friendly

Laflouder Thatch welcomes dogs too, so our two dogs could come along as well and they had a wonderful time. It was nicely enclosed for them, so it felt safe for them to be running around.
Out and About
Laflouder Thatch is a perfect location, you can walk into the village Mullion if you want to but amazing beaches on the doorstep or small drives. We only drove 20 minutes at the max during our holiday, which was wonderful. I will write more about where we went, but a brief lowdown of where we went.

We had a wonderful holiday at Laflouder Thatch, a couple of small issues with supplies, and Cornish Gems have apologised for the housekeeping not sorting them for us. I don’t usually moan at all, but we were spending quite a lot on this holiday and it was a big treat for us. So I did expect things to be OK, but like I said they were small things. The location and house were amazing, the kids and us all had a brilliant holiday together and fell in love with Cornwall even more!
We paid for this ourselves, I’m just sharing the places we find and love along with all the amazing places you can visit.
